"Around 350 million people worldwide have faced acute food insecurity this year," said Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), APA’s correspondent in Antalya reports.
Skau highlighted that this crisis is driven by escalating conflicts, climate change, and economic shocks: “These factors disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations. That’s why we are deeply invested in keeping global food security as a top priority. Unfortunately, in recent years, traditional donors in the West have reduced their contributions. As a result, we are actively seeking new partners.”
He added that the WFP participated in the climate summit COP29 held in Baku last year and had excellent meetings with the Azerbaijani government: “We are eagerly looking forward to deepening this partnership. We expect that every country, including Azerbaijan, will support us during these challenging times.”
