Holding meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan in the 31st meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers in Malta is not planned, Armenian Foreign Ministry reported this, APA reports.
APA was able to learn some details about the why the meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers wasn't held.
Diplomatic sources told the agency that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken initiated a meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers within the framework of the OSCE Foreign Ministers' Council meeting. Blinken insisted on mediating for this meeting to take place.
It is known that the United States is not currently participating in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. With this initiative, Blinken sought to reintroduce the U.S. into the peace process.
However, the Azerbaijani side categorically refused Blinken's proposal to hold a meeting.
The reason for this is that “the Biden Administration, in general, pursues an unjust and biased policy towards Azerbaijan.”
"For this reason, Azerbaijan does not want the U.S. to participate in the peace agenda at all and does not consider it appropriate," a diplomatic source stated.
This meeting did not take place precisely because Azerbaijan refused the mediation of the United States.
