The German government plans to spend nearly €12 billion on developing a new long-range arsenal, according to confidential documents from the German Ministry of Defense, APA reports citing Politico.

These are weapons that will allow the Bundeswehr to strike targets—command posts, airfields, missile launchers, or supply centers—at ranges of hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. The German Ministry of Defense expects to receive the first such systems as early as 2027, with more technically sophisticated weapons expected in the mid-2030s.

The plan consists of four stages. According to the documents, in the first stage, Germany wants to purchase less expensive cruise missiles and is already in talks with two manufacturers. The candidates include the Anthem missile from the American-Israeli company Covenant Industries, and the Ukrainian-made BARS and Flamingo systems. The first missile is expected to undergo testing this year. The Ministry of Defense describes these missiles as "cost-effective and, above all, accessible for mass production."

The second, transitional solution involves acquiring American Tomahawk cruise missiles. Berlin expects to receive them, along with ground-based Typhon launchers, by the end of the decade.

The third and fourth areas are two German-British projects. In one, the two countries are jointly developing a cruise missile, and in the second, a hypersonic glide vehicle. The new systems are planned to be capable of striking targets at ranges of over 2,000 km.
