Democrats plan investigations into US administration if they win House majority

Democrats are preparing to launch investigations into various aspects of the US administration’s activities if they win a majority in the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections.

The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing sources.

According to the report, Democrats have already identified around 12 areas for potential investigation.

These include the US military operation against Iran, the business activities of President Donald Trump and members of his family, the construction of a ballroom at the White House, Trump’s ties to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sex trafficking involving minors, and the activities of US immigration agencies.

The report said Democrats have not yet reached a consensus on whether to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump.

White House lawyers have already briefed Cabinet members and advisers on possible requests to testify before Congress and provided guidance on how to respond to such inquiries.

The WSJ also noted that Democrats would need to gain only a few additional seats to secure a majority in the House of Representatives.

The outcome of the contest for control of the Senate, which is currently held by Republicans, is considered more difficult to predict.
