The tense situation in the region is deeply concerning, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said during his speech at the special session titled "The Situation in Palestine and Lebanon" at the 11th Summit of the D-8 Economic Cooperation Organization in Cairo, APA reports.
The Prime Minister said that the humanitarian consequences of the crisis, which has resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives and the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza and other Palestinian territories, have reached a critical level: "In this regard, urgent measures must be taken to prevent further bloodshed. Azerbaijan, an inseparable part of the Islamic world, expresses its solidarity with the people of Gaza during this difficult period. We strongly condemn the escalation of violence, the use of disproportionate force, and the loss of civilian lives. This is a clear violation of international humanitarian law. Azerbaijan has always made efforts to provide material assistance to our brothers and sisters in Palestine. Our country has allocated 2 million USD to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people affected by this crisis. Additionally, Azerbaijan has allocated funds for the construction of a 600-student school in Palestine. Azerbaijan continues close contacts with other countries in the region to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. We will continue to make our efforts to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of the crisis. In addition to humanitarian aid, Azerbaijan plays a leading role in securing international support for Palestine. In this regard, we have hosted several high-level events. Among them, I would particularly highlight the establishment of the Islamic Financial Security Network and the Donor Conference aimed at supporting the development of Jerusalem."
