U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan: â€œAzerbaijan will play a more important role in Europeâ€™s energy securityâ€

He said that Georgia plays an important role in the transportation of oil and gas resources: “Georgia could have insisted on the transportation of oil via Supsa pipeline, but realized that it is more expedient for the region to transport oil through Georgia and Turkey, then through Port of Ceyhan in the Mediterranean Sea. So there was no need to transport oil through Bosphorus strait.

Touching on Azerbaijan's role in energy security, Ambassador noted that a choice will be made between Nabucco West and TAP projects next month and following this, Azerbaijani gas will be transported to Europe: “With the gas pipeline chosen, Azerbaijan will play a more important role in Europe’s energy security. We should make efforts to protect energy platforms, pipelines from terrorist and military attacks. Furthermore, energy infrastructure should be protected from earthquakes, cyber attacks and computer viruses. Each of them can be detrimental to the energy security.”
