He said that this article has been written in response to the conference on “The future of contemporary South Azerbaijan” organized by the South Azerbaijan National Liberation Movement in Baku on March 30: “Heinous event attended by few people was against the territorial integrity of Iran. Let Iran offer Azerbaijan to hold a referendum among its population “Would you like to unite with Iran, or not?”. The Republic of Azerbaijan has a population of around 10 million people, most of them are Shias. They have deep cultural and religious ties with the Azerbaijanis in Iran. People want to return to their own cultures and beliefs, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The people of the Republic of Azerbaijan see themselves as separated from Iran. Zionists’ efforts to change these people's minds failed.”
