The website owned by Turkish mujahideen reported that 30 Azerbaijanis have been killed in Syria up to now.
Elman Abdullayev mentioned that all the citizens of Azerbaijan, who passed consular registration at Azerbaijan’s embassy in Syria, left the country when the situation deteriorated: “The embassy has moved to Beirut, the capital of Lebanon and now Syria-related issues are being managed from there. Before the diplomatic mission moved to Beirut, the embassy had helped all the Azerbaijani citizens to leave Syria. All the Azerbaijanis registered at consulate have already left Syria.” Elman Abdullayev said that the diplomatic missions of a number of countries have also left Syria due to the tense situation.
According to the spokesman, due to the situation in Syria, it is difficult to identify the nationality and citizenship of people killed in Syria: “It has not been officially determined whether these persons are Azerbaijani or not. Despite the tense situation in the country, Azerbaijan will make efforts to identify their citizenship.”
