Barack Obama congratulates Azerbaijani President and people on May 28

The letter says:

"Dear Mr. President:

Congratulations to you and the people of Azerbaijan as you celebrate your Republic Day. On May 28, 1918, independent Azerbaijan set an example for the international community as the first democratic, secular republic in the Muslim world, and we join you in celebrating Azerbaijan’s rich history.

Our two countries share a strong partnership, especially in the areas of energy and regional security. The United States also remains fully committed to assisting Azerbaijan’s efforts to build a vibrant and prosperous democratic society and continues to search for a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We also deeply appreciate the contributions that Azerbaijan has made in support of our collective efforts in Afghanistan.

On behalf of the American people, I wish you and the people of Azerbaijan the very best on your National Day.”
