Baku – APA. On April 17, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament and chairman of Czech-Azerbaijani friendship group Jan HamáÄek. Stating successful cooperation between the countries both bilaterally and within the European Union, the President regretfully noted that the steps that hinder this cooperation are taken in the Czech Republic. He said that the false, groundless and biased statements issued by Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg on Azerbaijan and Khojaly genocide are one of the steps that impede the expansion of Czech-Azerbaijani relations.
Noting that such statements are unacceptable, the Head of State expressed his confidence that the Czech leadership will comment on these issues that harm the development of bilateral relations.
HamáÄek noted the importance of further development of bilateral relations between the countries in various spheres including inter-parliamentary cooperation. He underlined that the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament had adopted a resolution on the 21st anniversary of Khojaly tragedy condemning ethnic cleansing, massacre and genocide committed unprotected civilians.
