Baku – APA. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by Thomas Melia, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor on April 17.
The Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA that during the meeting they exchanged views about regional affairs, democracy, human rights and freedom of expression and discussed options to advance bilateral cooperation in these spheres.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov spoke about the reforms and achievements in spheres such as democracy, human rights and freedom of expression.
In his turn, Thomas Melia noted that United States is keen to cooperate with Azerbaijan in those spheres and stressed the need to continue cooperation in these areas.
Speaking about the current state of peace talks aimed at the resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Minister Mammadyarov stressed that official Yerevan evades the talks by using various excuses. Minister also emphasized that OSCE Minsk Group should step up its efforts to arrive at the solution of the conflict and added that the prolongation of the settlement of the conflict poses the biggest threat to the regional stability.
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov also called on the international community to show impartial, fair and objective approach to the conflict settlement process.
