Azerbaijani and Kazakh Centers for Strategic Studies hold joint round table on Caspian

The representatives of both countries’ think tanks held discussions on “The importance of the Caspian Sea for Azerbaijan and national prospects of regional cooperation”, “Potential threats the security in Kazakhstan and the Caspian region”, “The Caspian Corridor: Increasing importance for trade and energy export between East and West”, “Development of economic cooperation in the Caspian region: The vision of Kazakhstan”.

 

SAM director Farhad Mammadov said that ensuring security in the Caspian Sea is one of the main topics between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan: “The Caspian Sea ensures Azerbaijan’s access to Central Asia and unites the people with a common history. But there are common threats. For example: the threat of smuggling”.

 

Speaking about the importance and problems of the Caspian Sea, head of the Institute for Strategic Studies under the President Kazakhstan Bulat Sultanov said that the two countries have common roots and have already achieved some successes: “The world is rapidly developing and changing. Our goal is to identify these changes in advance and prepare forecasts. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, as developing countries, can prepare a common approach to the processes in the world. The Caspian-related problems are the common problems of the Caspian littoral countries and they can solve these problems in accordance with their interests.
