Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. Azerbaijan has replied to the note of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA that Azerbaijani Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Iran Javanshir Akhundov has handed a note of response to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

E. Abdullayev stated  that the views expressed at the conference entitled “The future of contemporary South Azerbaijan” in Baku on March 30 don’t demonstrate the official position of Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the bilateral relations with Iran. The current bilateral relations with Iran are based on friendship and mutual understanding. Azerbaijan also highly estimates Iran’s support for enhancement and further development of bilateral relations.”

Iran has sent a note to Azerbaijan protesting against the conference on the theme “The future of contemporary South Azerbaijan” organized in Baku on March 30 by the South Azerbaijan National Freedom Front. On March 31, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tehran Javanshir Akhundov was summoned to Iran’s Foreign Ministry. Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Aragchi handed a letter of protest to Azerbaijan’s ambassador. The letter says that views against Iran’s territorial integrity and Tehran authorities were expressed at the event. It was noted that the Azerbaijani state did not take necessary measures to prevent the event.
