Baku. Victoria Dementyeva-APA. The Azerbaijani citizens Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov detained in Tabriz have not been handed over to the Azerbaijani side yet, spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA.
“Unfortunately, our citizens have not been handed over to Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Tabriz yet. Our Consul General continues contacts with the Iranian side to clarify the situation,” he said.
Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov were detained in Tabriz on April 30. Following the two notes of Azerbaijan, Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement that our compatriots were detained because of illegal activities. The Iranian side announced that Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov will be released this week.
In his interview with APA TV on May 22, ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen said that the two persons have already been released and handed over to the Azerbaijani side. But the Foreign Ministry refuted this report.
