Baku - APA. Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov have been handed over to Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Tabriz, Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen said, APA reports.
Ambassador noted that it is up to the Consulate General to clarify when they will return to Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran and Consulate General in Tabriz have not commented yet.
Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev refuted the statement of Iranian Ambassador. He said that Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov have not been handed over to Azerbaijan yet.
On April 30, researcher and writer Khalida Khalid and her driver Shamkhal Huseynov were arrested at the father’s house of Azerbaijani activist Mahammad (Okhtay) Rashidi by the employees of the Ministry of Intelligence and National Security (MISIRI).
Though the two persons had been expected to return to Baku with the delegation led by chairman of Caucasian Muslims Board, Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh, they didn’t arrive with the delegation.
Yesterday spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that they hope Iranian citizen Mikayil Kazimi, who was arrested in Azerbaijan, will also be released soon.
