Whether culturally or religiously, France continues its pressures, said Dominique Montet (French Guiana), a member of the Decolonization and Social Emancipation Movement (DSEM), at a press conference held a day before the international conference titled "Colonialism: Erasure of National-Religious Identity," organized by the Baku Initiative Group, APA reports.
He spoke about the language issue in French Guiana: "Our own language, Creole, is not being used. This leads to the destruction of the new generation. In a country where television, radio, and school programs are in French, and only French history is taught, there can be no talk of national identity."
He noted that people in French Guiana are still searching for their national identity: "This is a big problem. We need to discuss how to restore the Creole language. The French government is trying to ensure that the Creole language disappears completely. We must not allow this to happen."
