Tbilisi–APA. Azerbaijani gas will completely meet the needs of Georgian population and thermal power stations, Georgia’s Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri told journalists, APA reports. Georgia will also use for its industrial needs the Russian gas as a transit payment for transportation of the natural gas from Russia to Armenia. The Minister said electricity and gas prices would not be changed for population. According to the report by Transparency International Georgia, the country will purchase 500 million cubic meters gas from Azerbaijan and 300 million – from Shah Deniz consortium. Georgia received 200 million cubic meters gas from Russia in 2007 as a transit payment. It will be reduced this year due to the exploitation of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline. Georgia consumed 1.75 billion cubic meters of natural gas last year, 60 percent of which was purchased from Russia, 40 percent - from Azerbaijan. The balance is expected to change in favor of Azerbaijan this year.
