Azerbaijani President: â€œApparently Armenian leadership has understood the necessity of respecting the international lawâ€

APAâ€™s Turkey bureau reports that Turkish President Abdullah Gul gave a reception in honor of Azerbaijanâ€™s President and his spouse yesterday. Abdullah Gul congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on his re-election.
â€œAfter Azerbaijan declared its independence in 1991, the late Heydar Aliyev determined the countryâ€™s policy properly. His formula â€œOne nation, two statesâ€ describing the relations between our countries gave an impetus to the development of bilateral relations. Ilham Aliyev is successfully continuing this policy. Azerbaijanâ€™s economy, military power and democracy are developing. It makes Azerbaijan stronger on the way towards the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Turkey is doing its best for the peaceful solution to the conflict. The occupied territories should be liberated, one million internally displaced people should return to their lands. Turkey supports right position of Azerbaijan in all issues, as well as in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict,â€ he said.

Speaking at the dinner-party, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said he was very pleased that he made his first official visit after the re-election to Turkey. â€œAzerbaijan is becoming stronger as an independent country from day to day. We are regularly holding cordial meetings with the Turkish authorities. The declaration signed by the Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in Moscow several days ago is very important because it emphasizes that the sides respect the international law. It seems Armenian leadership also understood it. The main issue for us is liberation of our lands occupied by Armenia and returning of one million refugees to their homeland. We are giving great importance to the Turkeyâ€™s role in this processâ€.

President Ilham Aliyev will address the Turkish Parliament and will meet with Prime Minister Receb Tayib Erdogan on Thursday.
