Ali Hasanov: â€œUS-Azerbaijan relations should be further based on partnershipâ€

He noted that the US-Azerbaijan relations were within the framework of interests of both nations and the relations should be further based on partnership. â€œNot depending on who leads the country, the policy made on the peopleâ€™s choice must be developed. Of course the best president is the president elected by the people. If American people elect Barack Obama today, his policy will reflect just the peopleâ€™s wishes and intentions in future. It is benefit for Azerbaijan because Azerbaijanâ€™s national interests coincide with the interests of American peopleâ€.

Hasanov said the policy made under pressure of any Diaspora did not meet the interests of American people and in concrete case, efforts of Armenian Diaspora to guide US Governmentâ€™s policy did not coincide with the peopleâ€™s interests. â€œTherefore we think that not depending on who was elected the president, Americans will prefer the common and national interests. This policy is meeting the Azerbaijanâ€™s interests. Unfortunately, the US policy is made sometimes not within the peopleâ€™s wishes and intentions, but under the pressure of separate Diasporas. It is not meeting the common interests of our stateâ€.

Hasanov said Azerbaijan accepted any sincere and real proposal and recommendation directed toward the development of democracy as normal. â€œHowever we do not accept synonymously the recommendations and demands having pressure on some issues. Azerbaijan requested the sincere attitude to its sincere policy. There is cooperation between the US democrats and Azerbaijani Government, which is developing and will develop further. The national interests of both US and Azerbaijan demand developing of relations of the two countries toward the strategic partnershipâ€.

The official spoke about the so-called â€œArmenian genocideâ€ and said its recognition by someone was self-defeating action. â€œIf Armenian genocide took place it should be recognized soon or later. If it did not take place, someoneâ€™s announcement of its recognition does not change anything. The history put everything to own place in time. In concrete case, the â€œArmenian genocideâ€ is fiction, absurdity and illusion. It is impossible to include it in the history and to confirm it historicallyâ€.
