Azerbaijani officials to attend Forum for the Future of Democracy in Madrid

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“APA. Forum for the Future of Democracy is to be held in Madrid, on 15-17 October 2008. Elkhan Nuriyev, Head of Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan, Elmir Valizadeh, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technologies will represent Azerbaijan in the Forum. Center for Strategic Studies told APA that the debates will focus on the use of ICTs for enhancing democratic processes and to create new spaces for information, deliberation, consultation and transaction between government and citizens and between citizens themselves. The Forum will address the opportunities and risks of e-democracy and discuss examples of how ICTs can contribute to inclusive democratic practice alongside traditional forms of political participation.
Azerbaijani representatives will address on e-activity and e-campaigning. Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, LluÃs Maria de Puig, the President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly , Yavuz Mildon, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will make speeches in the event.
