Azerbaijanâ€™s National Security Minister receives delegation of Political Affairs Committee of Assembly of Western European Union

Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijanâ€™s Minister of National Security, Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov has received the delegation of Political Affairs Committee of the Assembly of Western European Union, public affairs center of National Security Ministry told APA. Eldar Mahmudov spoke about ongoing processes, realities and threats in the region, noted that the whole world was concerned over the international terrorism, illicit drug turnover, illegal migration and transnational organized crimes. The minister briefed about the concrete outcomes of the measures taken in the National Security Ministry and activity of the related bodies.

National Security Minister also touched on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, said the factor of occupation posed serious threat not only to Azerbaijan, but also to Europeâ€™s security. Eldar Mahmudov underlined the necessity of rapid solution to the conflict within the framework of international legal norms and added that the European Union should increase efforts for this.

Touching on Azerbaijanâ€™s geographical-strategic position in the region head of the delegation Michael Hancock said the country situated in the sensitive place with regard to international terrorism threats and underlined that Azerbaijan played an important role in the regional security.
