Mehdi Safari: “Iran is against Trans-Caspian project”

Baku. Tamara Grigoryeva – APA. Summit of heads of Caspian littoral states will take place in Baku in October-November, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Mehdi Safari said, APA reports. Mehdi Safari said that all the parties supported acceleration of the process of coordination for rapid solution of the issues.

The Deputy Minister said 60-70 percent of the problems on determination of legal status of the sea had been solved among the Caspian littoral states.
“Energy issues and project of the Caspian security have been discussed in today’s meeting”, he said.

Mehdi Safari said Iran was against Trans-Caspian project.
“This project may have negative influence on the ecological state of the Caspian Sea. Energy resources may be transported from Central Asia through Iran or Russia. Why we should risk and construct Trans-Caspian project if there are such ways”, he said.
