Within the framework of the NATO Summit held in Ankara, 11 allied countries announced the joint procurement of AWACS aircraft for NATO's new Airborne Early Warning and Control System, APA's Türkiye bureau reports.
The decision was made to replace part of the alliance's aging Boeing E-3 aircraft with modern platforms.
The new system will expand surveillance capabilities across air, land, and maritime domains and will enable more effective detection of threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.
Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, and Sweden have joined the initiative.
