APA’s Europe bureau reports that 520 parliamentarians voted for, 32 against, 24 abstained from voting. Resolution on the negotiations on the association agreement between Armenia and the European Union has also been adopted in today’s plenary meeting of the European Parliament. The discussions regarding the two countries were held yesterday.

During the discussions the European parliamentarians expressed their hope that the negotiations on the EU association agreements with Azerbaijan and Armenia will be favorable for the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The European parliamentarians consider that this agreement will improve the state of human rights and democratic reforms in both countries and increase the European Union’s role in this process.

The Resolution adopted today reads that European Union respects territorial sovereignty of Azerbaijan and Armenia and unsolved Nagorno Karabakh conflict prevents stability and development in South Caucasus. The resolution also calls EU to participate actively in solution of the conflict.

Resolution adopted by the European parliament reflects Armenian forces’ withdrawal form occupied territories and returning IDPs to their homelands.

According to the resolution, Azerbaijan’s election to UN Security Council is good opportunity to conduct consultations between Azerbaijan and European Union
