German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned the United States against interfering in German elections and supporting certain political forces in the country, APA reports.
"I've always said that we don't interfere in American elections. We've always maintained that. Conversely, I wouldn't want the American government or institutions close to it to interfere in German elections," Merz said at a press conference in Berlin. "Funding political parties from abroad is illegal in Germany. I assume, first and foremost, that our friends around the world will adhere to these legal rules," he added.
In September, state elections will be held in Berlin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Saxony-Anhalt.
