Elkhan Suleymanov: “It is in the interest of the Armenian side that the work of the EURONEST PA is paralyzed†- INTERVIEW
- Mr. Suleymanov, are you satisfied with the results of Baku session of the EURONEST PA?
- Not only I, but also many participants of the session highly appreciated the work of the second session of the EURONEST PA in Baku. Baku session proved that if there is a political will among member states, no problem is able to hinder productivity of the EURONEST. As an Azerbaijani Delegation, we always approached seriously to the work of the EURONEST PA and will do our best for further successful functioning of this institution.
- After leaving Baku, members of the Armenian Delegation to the EURONEST PA made several unexpected statements at their press conference…
- Yes, as usual, our Armenian colleagues again turned to messy means of fighting. Even during the session, the Armenian Delegation had spread 3 anti-Azerbaijani books among the session participants, gave broad and biased comments for gaining political dividends. They even politicized their high-level welcome by the Azerbaijani side and noted that Azerbaijani people reconciled themselves to the loss of land. Besides being subjective, this approach is aimed to damage the reputation of the Azerbaijani side within the country. Subsequently, it is in the interest of the Armenian side that the Azerbaijani side becomes radical, and thus, further work of the EURONEST PA is paralyzed. However, despite all these attempts, the Azerbaijani side insists on doing its best for the further successful functioning of the EURONEST PA. We will always prefer civilized relations with our partners.
- How do you interpret such a step by Armenians?
- I think Armenians realized that they had already lost civilized fighting with us. Armenians feel strong hatred for our every success. The only thing they can do is to lie and they widely use it. I should note that meeting of the Social Affairs Committee of the EURONEST PA was held in Yerevan in February of this year. They used that meeting for their own purposes – hosts surrounded us with speakers, maps and images, which falsify historical facts, and were, in principle, completely against international law and several UN resolutions. They always hold meetings in rooms with the map of the occupied Azeri territories being represented as part of Armenia. Certainly, there was not such a map in the room where meeting of Social Committee was held and could not be; otherwise, our representatives would not participate in that meeting. However, Armenia always describes Azerbaijani territories on its maps ignoring international principles and such maps can be seen everywhere and in different sources in Armenia.
