Title of honorary doctor of Baku State University conferred on chairwoman of Russian Council of Federation - <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION</font>

APA reports that Valentina Matvienko was awarded for her active participation in the development of bilateral relations and extension of relations in science and education and rector of the Baku State University Abel Maharramov presented Honorary Doctorâ€™s Diploma to her.

Abel Maharramov spoke about the relations of the Baku State University with the universities of Russia. According to him, currently 17 faculties, 124 departments and 24 scientific laboratories are functioning in the university. About 1500 students out of 20 000 students of Baku State University came from 16 countries of the world.

Valentina Matvienko noted that many things unite Azerbaijan and Russia: â€œOn April 4, our countries marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and our relations developed positively within 20 years. The volume of trade turnover between our countries was USD 2.8 billion last year. Currently Azerbaijan and Russia are going to sign intergovernmental program on the cooperation in the cultural sphere covering 2015.â€

Chairwoman of Russian Council of Federation thanked Azerbaijan for the attention to the Russian language. According to her, 6 000 Azerbaijanis are studying in Russia and 1500 of them are studying through the State Program.

Valentina Matvienko also spoke about the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and said that Russia is continuing its attempts in this direction: â€œSettlement process is being continued but there are no expected results. Unfortunately, there is no speedy settlement of this conflict.â€ According to her, it is necessary to solve Nagorno Karabakh conflict within the international legal norms, establish the confidence and relations between intellectuals and youths.
