We are thinking about new forms of cooperation; because relations of the leaders of our countries and their mutual understanding set it task for us to strengthen these relations. The dialogue develops very actively at political level; of course the parliaments must support extension of the cooperation”, Chairwoman of the Russian Council of Federation Valentina Matvienko told journalists, APA reports. Matvienko said that as a chairwoman of the council, which unites the regions, she touches a special importance to the development of interregional relations: “It is very significant. Currently, more than 70 federal subjects have relations with the various regions and cities of Azerbaijan. There is a great potential in this sphere and it was not used until the end. Russian and Azerbaijani parliaments must do their best for the establishment of condition for this cooperation and strengthen of its legal basis.”

Matvienko expressed her gladness for the Azerbaijan’s election as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. According to her, it gives new opportunities for the cooperation of both countries at the international level: “Participation of Azerbaijan in the Security Council gives opportunities for our cooperation on the settlement of several international issues. Azerbaijan’s election as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council shows its prestige in the world.”
