About 40 Azerbaijani citizens are still in Syria

The embassy said that the diplomatic mission continues its work in a normal regime.

â€œThere are no security problems. At first, about 100 Azerbaijani citizens were registered in the consular department of embassy. Most of them have already left the country. Currently most of 35-40 Azerbaijani citizens, who are still here, are the students studying at the universities of Syria. They came here to study at their own expenses, not through the state program. We constantly keep contact with our compatriots.â€

Previously, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria and Azerbaijanâ€™s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended to Azerbaijani students to interrupt their studies in Syria due to the current situation in the country and return home.

In connection with the situation in the country a number of diplomatic missions in Syria, including the U.S. Embassy suspended operations.
