Hillary Clinton: “I just want to underscore the strategic importance of the relationship between the United States and Azerbaijan”

We are very committed to broadening and deepening our relationship”, said U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a briefing held jointly with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov in Washington DC.

“We are also committed to continuing to work through the Minsk Group to try to resolve the longstanding conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh”, said Secretary Clinton.

In his turn, Elmar Mammadyarov noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and the United States are developing quite well and the nature of it is a strategic one. “Of course, we need to even more deepening and strengthening our cooperation. Thank you very much for all the words of trying to bring more peace and stability to the region, particularly the resolution of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh problem. There was a recent statement by the presidents which I believe also helpful from the point of view that this unresolved conflict is on the screen of the international community. And we all together have to work harder to make a breakthrough”.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also made a statement on the meeting between Clinton and Mammadyarov. Press service of the ministry told APA that Clinton thanked Azerbaijan for its support in the war on terror and expressed satisfaction with the bilateral cooperation.

The range of issues of bilateral cooperation, energy cooperation and the prospects of its broadening were discussed at the meeting.

The diplomats exchanged views on the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
