Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Bob Blackman, Member of the UK Parliament and head of the UK-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
The meeting emphasized that interparliamentary ties are an important component of bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries, and satisfaction was expressed with the establishment of close cooperation and the expansion of mutual contacts between the two legislatures. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova recalled her visits to the United Kingdom and her meetings with Speaker of the UK House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle, as well as reciprocal visits by parliamentarians, noting that these contacts contribute to the further development of relations between the two parliaments.
The sides also highlighted the importance of positive dialogue and meetings between the friendship groups, as well as cooperation within international parliamentary organizations.
UK Member of Parliament Bob Blackman shared his positive impressions of his latest visit to Azerbaijan, including what he saw in the country and in the capital, Baku. He stressed that the United Kingdom attaches great importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan and underlined the role of parliaments in this process.
The meeting also included discussions on the current situation in the region and the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova informed the guest about the extensive reconstruction and restoration work being carried out in the territories liberated from occupation.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
