Azerbaijani Foreign Minister meets OSCE Minsk Group U.S. co-chair

Baku – APA. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov, within his working visit to the United States, met with the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Robert Bradtke in Washington DC on June 1. Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA they discussed the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

On June 2, Elmar Mammadyarov met with the well-known experts on the region – Ms. Fiona Hill, Director of the U.S. and European Center of Brookings Institute, Cory Welt, Associate Director and Professorial Lecturer of International Affairs at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies, Thomas de Waal, Senior Associate in the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Glenn Howard, President of the Jamestown Foundation.

Minister informed the experts about the independent policy of Azerbaijan, its leading position in the region, its important role in the development of regional cooperation, particularly regional energy and transport projects, as well as the negotiation process over the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Mammadyarov informed them about the Azerbaijan’s nomination for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2012-2013 in October and underlined the country’s advantages regarding its nomination.

They exchanged view on regional and global issues at the meeting.

On June 2, Minister Mammadyarov met with Zbigniew Brzezinski, member of Advisory Board of Strategic and International Studies Center, former US National Security Advisor. Mammadyarov informed him about domestic and foreign policy pursued by Azerbaijan, the last achievements reached by the country’s economic policy.

Brzezinski shared his good memories concerning Azerbaijan, exchanged view on regional and global processes with Mammadyarov.
