Liverpool beat Inter in the Champions League match

Liverpool beat Inter Milan 1-0 away in their Champions League matchday six match at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan, APA reports.

The goal was scored by Dominik Szoboszlai (88th minute, penalty).

The teams played their seventh match in the competition. Liverpool won their fifth game, while Inter won twice. Prior to this game, Liverpool and Inter last met in the 2021/22 Champions League Round of 16, where the English team won 2-0 and 0-1 on aggregate. Liverpool is a six-time Champions League winner (1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005, 2019), while Inter have won the tournament three times (1964, 1965, 2010).

After six rounds, both teams have 12 points. Liverpool will play Marseille away in their next match on January 21, while Inter will host Arsenal the day before.

Thirty-six clubs participate in the Champions League stage. All teams will play eight matches in the first stage—four home and four away. All clubs are combined into a combined table, with the top eight automatically advancing to the round of 16. The teams finishing ninth through 24th will determine the remaining playoff participants in the playoffs. The Champions League has been held in this format since last season. Russian clubs and national teams have been banned from participating in international competitions since 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.
