Iran will not participate in the 2026 World Cup draw, said Amir Mehdi Alavi, a representative of the Iranian Football Federation, in a statement to state television, Apasport.az reports.
The reason for this is the visa restrictions imposed by the United States on athletes from Iran. He said that they took this step because they consider the restrictions to be unsportsmanlike.
Note that a total of 48 teams will participate in the World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
The draw will take place on December 5 this year in Washington.
