Felipe Melo, the former Brazil national team midfielder and defender, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41. The experienced veteran made the announcement on Friday, following the expiration of his contract with Fluminense, his final club.
"Today, I close one of the most important chapters of my life: my career as a professional footballer. It has been an incredible journey, full of battles and achievements," Melo wrote on Instagram.
"I am eternally grateful for the privilege of doing what I love," he added.
Felipe Melo began his career as a midfielder with Flamengo in 2001 before moving on to play for Grêmio and Cruzeiro. His European adventure saw him represent clubs such as Almería, Racing Santander, Mallorca, Fiorentina, Juventus, and Galatasaray, where he enjoyed success and became known for his combative playing style.
