Ajax will visit Qarabağ in Baku tomorrow in the 6th round of the UEFA Champions League league phase, APA reports.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ajax head coach Fred Grim answered questions from journalists.
“The people at the club give us great support, which is encouraging. We also have our responsibilities. The trip to Baku went well, but it wasn’t easy. We are happy that our fans have come here,” he said.
- What is your opinion about “Qarabag”?
- I have watched their games. Qarabag are a very good team; they rarely lose. They have fast attacks, and their players are technically strong. It will be a very serious match for us.
- It was a long trip for you. How are the players?
- It’s an important match for the players. There is some travel fatigue, but I trust my team. We have enough energy collectively. All of them want to play actively. My players are looking forward to tomorrow’s match.
- Wout Weghorst will not take part in tomorrow’s match. What do you think about this?
- We have spoken about Wout many times. His injury is very serious. It is unfortunate this happened before the winter break. But now we are thinking about Kasper Dolberg. He has played a lot as well.
- Have you finalized your opinion on who will be able to play?
- There is no problem. We have considered all the players sufficiently. We are doing the necessary work and discussing how many minutes each player can play. We are thinking about Ajax’s development.
- What is your expectation from tomorrow’s match?
- We currently have zero points, but we would very much like to gain points in tomorrow’s match against Qarabag.
- Ajax has zero points, and 6 of your key players have not come to Baku. Can it be said that you are thinking more about the Eredivisie?
- Ajax enter every match with the aim of winning. It does not matter which competition it is. Playing against a team with seven points requires a lot of seriousness. We will do our best tomorrow. After that, we will turn our attention to the league.
- What advantage does Qarabag have compared to you?
- We have watched and analyzed several of Qarabag's matches. They are a very balanced and mature team this season. They play very strongly and have many sharp attacking movements. We have plans against this. Tomorrow is a match we could win or lose. We will see.”
- Which player in Qarabag would you particularly highlight?
- It would be better not to mention names. Their defensive line is very good; they make many blocks. Their midfielders are also strong—smart and fast players. I would prefer not to single anyone out.
- Doesn’t the match against Qarabag scare you?
- No, we are not scared, even though we have no points. We will try to avoid finishing the group stage with zero points.
