Luiz Felipe Scolari has been given a four-match ban by UEFA for improper conduct after an incident in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Serbia on 12 September. The Portugal coach was also fined 12,120 Euros (£8,479) for his part in a scuffle with defender Ivica Dragutinovic after the final whistle. UEFA said Scolari would not be able to go into the dressing room or pitch-side during four Euro 2008 qualifiers. "In addition, he will not be allowed to communicate with his team," he added. Sevilla star Dragutinovic, meanwhile, has been banned for two matches for his part in the incident, but both men have three days to lodge an appeal.
Scolari appeared to lash out after Dragutinovic was sent off - afterwards claiming the defender insulted his family - but denied making any contact. If his appeal is denied it means Scolari will be banned for Portugal’s qualifying games in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in October, and home ties against Armenia and Finland in November. Dragutinovic will miss Serbia’s qualifying games in Armenia and Azerbaijan in October.
