The AFFA leadership leads talks with Football Federation of Lithuania to organize friendly match between the national teams, AFFA secretary general Fuad Esedov told APA-Sport.
Esedov stated Lithuania hasn’t replied to the appeal yet.
“We addressed the Lithuanian Football Federation a while ago but there is no answer yet. The matches may be organized in Baku or in visit”, he said.
Secretary General noted AFFA has difficulty to find a team to play with.
“European teams don’t want to come to Azerbaijan because of its geographical location. That’s why it is difficult to find a team”, he underscored.
If the parties reach agreement, the match will be held on August 22, the date set by the FIFA for friendly matches. Azerbaijan and Lithuania have faced only once. The match in international tournament held in Viljandi, Estonia, 16 May 1998, ended 2-1 with Azerbaijan’s victory. Rasim Abushov made a double in the match. Vagif Sadigov was the head coach of the national team. Tomas Rajanauskas who plays in Baku’s Inter, scored a goal of Lithuania. /APA-Sport/
