Baku-APA. The U.S. dollar traded mixed against major currencies in late New York trading on Tuesday as the dollar gained against the euro and the Japanese yen, but slipped against the British pound, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

The euro rallied in mid trading session against the dollar to nearly 1.340, but turned back below 1.330 later, while the dollar gained almost one percent against the yen, the biggest one day percentage jump since Sept. 15.

Expectations that Ireland might pass a new austerity budget plan on Tuesday bolstered the euro in early trading session, but later the euro failed to break the session high of 1.34 against the dollar and headed down below 1.330.

In late Tuesday trading, the dollar bought 83.48 Japanese yen, compared with 82.60 late Monday, and the euro fell to 1.3268 dollars from 1.3322.

The British pound rose to 1.5761 dollars from 1.5721. The dollar rose from 0.9815 to 0.9873 against Swiss francs, and also rose to 1.0107 Canadian dollars from 1.0041.
