The Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have issued a joint statement regarding the solving of a murder committed in Baku 25 years ago, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office told APA.
Law enforcement agencies have solved another particularly serious crime committed in previous years. Thus, proceedings in the criminal case concerning the intentional murder of Hagigat Mammadova, born in 1961, on June 30, 2001, in the Nasimi district of Baku were reopened, and comprehensive investigative actions and operational-search measures were carried out by employees of the Nasimi District Prosecutor's Office and the district police department.
As a result of numerous measures taken, including interrogations, analysis and comparison of the results of modern forensic examinations, the details of the incident were established, and the crime was solved.
The collected evidence established reasonable grounds to suspect that Rovshan Zeynalov, born in 1976, who had previously been convicted of intentional murder, deliberately killed Hagigat Mammadova, who was clearly in a helpless condition.
Rovshan Zeynalov was detained by police officers on October 20, 2026, handed over to investigators, and detained as a suspect in the criminal case by the Prosecutor's Office.
On October 22, R. Zeynalov was charged under Article 120.2.9 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (murder of a person who is clearly in a helpless condition to the perpetrator).
Based on the investigator's motion and the submission of the prosecutor exercising procedural supervision over the preliminary investigation, the Nasimi District Court ordered his pretrial detention.
The preliminary investigation into the criminal case is currently ongoing at the Nasimi District Prosecutor's Office.
Solving crimes committed in previous years that have remained unsolved, identifying those responsible, and bringing them to justice in accordance with the law remain under constant attention, and the Prosecutor's Office continues to take necessary measures in cooperation with relevant state institutions in this direction.
