Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Thursday that his country would not allow the migrants' flow to Europe, adding that protection of Hungary’s borders would continue to be a top national security priority, APA reports quoting Anadolu agency.

Speaking during the oath ceremony of the first officers of a new border unit in the country, Orban said Hungary was now one of the safest countries in the EU by taking practical and useful solutions against the migrants.

“We do not have terrorism, no mass harassment, nor do they drive trucks into merrymaking crowds. [...] We have proven through deeds that immigration can be stopped,” the premier said.

Orban said the migrants were also victims. "The victims of human smugglers, European politicians pledging free entry and also of their own illusions”.

“We do understand them, but cannot yield to their demands and allow them to enter Europe. No human rights stipulate national suicide,” Orban said, adding that the new arrivals may be accompanied by terrorists, too.

As part of the measures against refugees, Hungary reinforced borders with soldiers and police with the support of Visegrad Group partners, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.

In 2015 the country installed razor wires on its Serbian and Croatian borders to stop the refugee flow. Additionally Hungary enhanced penalties applied for illegal crossings by announcing a state of emergency in border areas.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests -- which erupted as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings -- with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been killed and millions more displaced by the conflict.
