A proposal to impose sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party, has been submitted to the House of Commons of Great Britain, the British Parliament has stated, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
It is reported that "the House expresses its deep concern over the suspension of Georgia's EU accession process and the excessive use of force against peaceful demonstrators, condemns Bidzina Ivanishvili's role in undermining democracy and promoting Russian influence in Georgia."
The document notes that the United States has imposed sanctions on Ivanishvili and calls on the British government to take the same step to demonstrate a tough stance against democratic regression, and to reconsider the strategic partnership between Great Britain and Georgia. The proposal has currently been signed by 13 members of the House of Commons.
