Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday that the European Union should lift sanctions against Russia in 2025 after United States President-elect Donald Trump officially takes office, APA reports citing foreign press.
"The most important point is that due to the changed situation, a new era will begin, primarily regarding the war, peace, and sanctions issues. Sanctions will be thrown out the window and a system of relations without sanctions will be established with Russia," Orban noted in an interview with the radio station Kossuth.
However, the prime minister stressed that the EU leaders have not changed their stance on Russia and are still supporting the continuation of military conflict in Ukraine, but claimed that the situation will change. "We still need to work on this," Orban concluded.
