The world is witnessing an epoch of escalating tensions and geopolitical flashpoints that could potentially ignite a conflagration. The echoes of this disquiet reverberate through the corridors of power in Berlin, where German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has issued a stark warning of a possible war in Europe, APA reports citing BNN.
In an interview with ZDF, Pistorius underscored the necessity for society to brace itself for the grim realities of conflict. He cited the ongoing crises in the Middle East as a chilling harbinger of what Europe could face if it remains unprepared.
A key part of this readiness, according to Pistorius, lies in military preparedness. The Minister dismissed criticisms about the government’s alleged sluggishness in embracing a ‘change in times’. He highlighted the allocation of 100 billion euros for the Bundeswehr, Germany’s unified armed forces, and the implementation of structural changes within the military organization. Yet, he candidly acknowledged that the Bundeswehr had been neglected for a long time and would require time to recover from years of mismanagement.
Contrary to criticisms, Pistorius stated that the Bundeswehr’s modernization was making significant strides, with two-thirds of the 100 billion special fund already allocated to contracts. However, he did admit that production and delivery would invariably take time.
