"Wheat reserves have depleted in Georgia and mills in the country will suspend their activities in the coming days," said Levan Silagava, Executive Director of the Georgian Flour Producers Association, APA's local bureau reports citing Interpressnews.com.

He said that the reason was that only wheat was brought to the country, but no flour was ordered.

He added that at present, currently, there is no import tax on wheat in Georgia, but USD 120 duty is applied per tone of wheat. According to Silagava, because the flour import is more profitable with the current conditions, flour is intensively imported to the country and this replaces wheat imports.

Director of the Georgian Bakery Producers Association Malkhaz Dolidze said that currently, country has flour reserves for a minimum of 2 months and the bread production process has not faced danger even at the minimum level. He also noted that some mills have already started the flour import.

He noted that because Russia has increased the prices of wheat, there may be an increase in bread prices.
