COP29 is considered one of the most important and historically successful COPs to date in terms of the results we can achieve, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev during his speech at the 30th Anniversary "Baku Energy Forum" held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, COP29 was organized under challenging geopolitical and global political circumstances.
"Last year, we had elections in more than 60 countries. In some countries, these elections led to significant political change. The new governments — those coming to power — may have slightly or, in some cases, significantly different views on climate change and actions to combat climate change," Yalchin Rafiyev noted.
He stated that these circumstances made negotiations with other parties more difficult in order to move things forward and reach outcomes.
"I would like to highlight what COP29 brings to energy and how much priority we give to energy issues. From the very beginning of the process, we have engaged with all relevant stakeholders in the energy community—from advocates of clean energy, renewable energy sources, and green energy to traditional fuel producers. This inclusive approach has been crucial in ensuring comprehensive representation," he emphasized.
