The American military is exploring options for a possible resumption of full-scale military action against Iran, despite US President Donald Trump's ambiguous statements regarding the prospects of a return to active combat, APA reports citing The New York Times (NYT).
According to newspaper, three aircraft carriers will soon be deployed to the Middle East. The Pentagon is also developing plans to strike missile and drone storage sites, as well as other military and energy facilities.
Over the past few months, the Pentagon and Trump's national security team have presented the American leader with five proposals for large-scale military action against Iran or the Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah (Houthis). The US president rejected all of them, the newspaper reports.
At the same time, it is noted that many in Trump's inner circle believe that military action against the Islamic Republic will not be able to influence Tehran's plans; some of them are convinced that the campaign to exert economic pressure on Iran is bearing fruit and only needs a little more time to convince Tehran to make significant concessions.
