The Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce the winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, APA reports.
According to Alfred Nobel's will, the Peace Prize is awarded "to the person who has achieved the greatest success or done more than anyone else in the cause of uniting nations and reducing the size of active armies, and for holding and drawing attention to peace congresses." According to the scientist's last will, this prize, unlike the other awards established in his will, is to be awarded not in Stockholm, but in Oslo. Nobel specified that the decision to award the prize should be made by a five-member committee appointed by the Norwegian parliament. Traditionally, the committee members are predominantly retired Norwegian politicians and former party leaders.
These days, the more than century-old formulation is interpreted quite broadly, leading to frequent criticism of the committee's decisions. In recent years, the award's laureates have included politicians, human rights defenders, political activists, and humanitarian organizations for their achievements in a wide range of fields.
