Initial well drilling has been completed at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field as part of a gas development project aimed at extracting gas from two priority reservoirs, APA reports, citing bp’s quarterly report on its operations in Azerbaijan.

To advance exploration, evaluation, development, and production of free natural gas (FNG) from the ACG field, an amendment was signed on September 20, 2024, to the existing ACG Production Sharing Agreement (PSA). Estimated recoverable FNG reserves in the field are believed to reach up to 4 trillion cubic feet.

“Under this agreement, SOCAR and ACG partners are now planning further steps to develop FNG reservoirs. As part of these activities, an initial well targeting two priority reservoirs has been drilled. This well is crucial as it will also allow for production-based evaluation to shape future development plans,” the report states.

The well was drilled from the existing West Chirag platform. First gas production is expected by the end of 2025, following completion and subsea tie-in operations.
