The US Department of War has signed a $6.3 billion contract with Raytheon to produce SM-3 Block IB interceptor missiles, APA reports, citing the Pentagon.
The five-year agreement includes an option to extend the contract for a further two years.
According to the Pentagon, SM-3 missiles can intercept short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. US Navy destroyers also used the interceptors during the war with Iran.
The contract is intended to replenish US missile stockpiles and ensure stable production.
In mid-September, the Pentagon’s inspector general reported ammunition shortages resulting from the war with Iran.
The US Congressional Budget Office said the country had expended between half and two-thirds of its interceptor missile stockpile since June 2025.
